Shipping a Firearm for Gunsmithing is Easy, Safe, and Affordable
Need to ship your firearm to our gunsmith for repair, customization, or installation? The process is easier than most people think. Whether you’re sending us a hunting rifle, pistol, shotgun, or AR-15, we’ll guide you through every step.
Once your firearm arrives, we’ll inspect it, perform the requested work, and return it safely using the same packaging whenever possible.
Step 1: Find a Strong Shipping Box
The box doesn’t need to be new—it just needs to be sturdy.
A box from an old tool, rifle, or even yard equipment works perfectly.
Before shipping:
- Remove every old shipping label.
- Cover any remaining barcodes with a black marker.
- Reinforce weak corners with packing tape.
Old barcodes can confuse shipping scanners and delay your package.
Step 2: Protect Your Firearm with Plenty of Packing Material
Use crumpled paper, packing paper, bubble wrap, old towels, or clean clothing to completely surround the firearm.
The goal is simple:
Your firearm should not move inside the box.
For rifles and shotguns shipped in tall boxes:
- Place the firearm with the muzzle pointing down.
- Pack extra material under the muzzle.
- Fill every empty space tightly.
Think of the packing material as creating a protective cast around the firearm.
The tighter everything is packed, the less chance there is of shipping damage.
Step 3: Did we mention tight?
We want to see it packed as tight as this girl’s spandex pants.
Step 4: Include Your Contact Information
Please include a note inside the box with:
- Your name
- Return shipping address
- Phone number
- Email address
- A detailed description of the work you’d like completed
The more information you provide, the faster we can process your repair.
Step 5: Create Your Shipping Label
Any of these 3 carriers above will allow you to create a shipping label at home, print it, and tape it to the box. Some of them will even allow you to schedule a pickup at your location.
What Happens When Your Firearm Arrives?
Once your firearm arrives at our shop:
- We log it into our gunsmithing inventory.
- Your firearm is secured and covered under our business insurance through Fox Valley Firearms, LLC.
- Our gunsmith reviews your requested work.
- We send you an email confirming exactly what will be completed.
- Your firearm is repaired, modified, or customized.
- We return it promptly with tracking information.
